The 6th round of the Taça Rio was completed on Sunday with two games: the famous Fla-Flu derby and Botafogo – Nova Iguaçu
Fluminense were the big favorites to win, despite missing a few stars such as Deco, Fred and Thiago Neves. Flamengo already had no chances of reaching the semifinals, so pressure was off.
Despite the big quality gap favoring Fluminense, Flamengo dominated most of the game, achieving a 3-1 win.
Hernane opened the scoring early in the first half, while Renato Abreu scored two goals, one in each half, to extend Fla’s lead to 3-0.
Wellington Nem came from the bench in the second half, but could not prevent Flu’s defeat although Rafael Sóbis scored a consolation goal.
In the other Sunday game, Botafogo crushed Nova Iguaçu 4-1 in a match where Botafogo’s gringos, that’s how foreigners are referred to in Brazil, shone.
Uruguay’s Lodeiro scored a brace, while Dutchman Seedorf also contributed to the score.
Vitinho completed the score for Botafogo while Diguinho scored Nova Iguaçu’s only goal.
