Tonight will be Brazil’s first game in two years in front of their public. For that occasion nothing better than to please the supporters, by building an attacking team with players loved by the fans. And that is exactly what Mano Menezes is doing.

In his press conference yesterday after training, Menezes confirmed his lineup for today’s game. Three forwards, no creative player in midfield, three defensive midfielders and the usual four defenders. The starting 11 will be: Júlio César, Daniel Alves, Lúcio (playing his 100th game for the Selecao), Thiago Silva, André Santos, Lucas Leiva, Ramirez, Elano, Robinho, Neymar and Fred.

It is a team that logically fits Menezes’ philosophy: a strong defensive line, helped by three defensive midfielders and three men in attack.

The biggest surprise on the list is Fred. It was already a surprise to see him selected in the team but it seems that the striker from Fluminense managed to find his place in the team and four years after his last apparition he will have the opportunity to wear the number 9 again. Menezes said he always wanted to call Fred in the National Team, but the injuries had prevented him of doing so. Now that he is available Menezes wants to see what he can do on the pitch.

“I want to see him,” Menezes said. “We had a good discussion about the project for the World Cup, but now the time has come to test him on the field.”

Brazil and Holland will play at 20.10 (UK time) in Goiania.Sambafoot will offer you live coverage from the game.
