Terra claims that Cicero, who was most recently with German side VfL Wolfsburg, will sign on a free transfer, and act as cover for Lucas Moura and Casemiro, who are both away with Brazil national teams for the Copa America and the Under-20 World Cup respectively.

João Paulo de Jesus Lopes, the club’s vice president, said that the details of Cicero’s contract would not yet be revealed, telling reporters: “We do not talk about contracts without giving all the information and when it is all confirmed. Doing so causes disruption to the team.”

Sao Paulo will hope Cicero can help improve their recent results, with the club having lost their last two games and losing top spot in the Brasileirão table. For the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, it sees a return to his homeland where he has previously played for Bahia, Figueirense and Fluminense.
