Speaking at a recent press conference, Santos director of football Pedro Luiz Conceicao said: “We said no to a proposal of €4 million from Palermo for 70% of Rafael’s rights.
“We already have a verbal agreement on a salary increase for the player. He wants to stay and that makes negotiations easier. We are not going to change the length of the contract, but we are going to reward Rafael, which is the right thing to do.”
The 21-year-old has become the club’s first choice between the sticks since coming through the youth system and making his senior debut in 2009. He helped them to win the Copa Libertadores earlier this year, keeping a clean sheet in the first leg of the final.
