In 21-year-old Romarinho, Corinthians have found a new hero. Within the space of a week, the youngster has scored three times to see his side to a win in a derby fixture with Palmeiras and an away draw with Boca Juniors.

Romarinho, who signed from Bragantino just two weeks ago, has shot to fame in Brazil and has seen his name splashed across the back pages of the country’s newspapers.

Upon scoring in the Libertadores final, though, Romarinho was modest about his achievements and downplayed his contribution:

“Thanks to God, my star shone and I scored. It was my first touch and I scored it. I saw the goalkeeper going down and managed to put it over him,” Romarinho told Globo Esporte.

“I was very happy to help my team-mates. Now we go to the Pacaembu. It will be very exciting!”
