The former Brazil striker and current politician believes there is a ‘cartel’ within the CBF, which is an arrangement between parties to promote a mutual interest.
Romário’s suspicions were raised following “the convening [call-up] of Hulk for the Olympics and, shortly thereafter, the realization [fulfillment] of one of the most expensive transfers in football history."
Hulk recently moved from Porto to Zenit St. Petersburg for a fee of €50 million, very soon after his Olympic Games selection and participation.
The 45-year-old believes that Mano Menezes was purposely promoting Hulk during the tournament, as he left “the second best Brazilian player" Lucas Moura on the bench, in order to help the sale of the Porto attacker.
Congressman Romario, who helped Brazil win the 1994 FIFA World Cup, has never been a fan of Menezes and even called for him to be sacked after his country failed to win gold at London 2012.
He believes that Menezes’ surprise call-up of Corinthians goalkeeper Cassio for friendlies with South Africa and China is also to promote the player, in order to financially benefit the CBF in the future.
“Now the keeper of Corinthians, who has his economics connected with the Brazilian Football Confederation, will be sold after some games for the national team, if not already, to AS Roma," he added.
“Brazilian people do not deserve this. Great Minister Aldo Rebelo needs to help us to stop it.
“An institution such as the CBF, which is exempt from federal taxes, is already overdue an audit."
