Adelaide United’s Brazilian-born defender Cássio is targeting a Socceroos call-up after becoming an Australian citizen.

The 32-year-old left-back, who is Adelaide’s longest serving current player, became a naturalised Australian on Friday.

And with Australian citizenship, Cassio is now aiming to play for the Socceroos but realises he must work hard to earn a call-up.

”My first aim is just to be Australian,” he said. ”If a Socceroos call up came it would be a dream, but I have to work hard every day, I have a lot of respect for the players that are in the national squad now…so if I train and play well, then the coach might look at me.”

Cássio began his career at Brazilian giants Flamengo and has had brief spells at Paraguayan side Olimpia and MLS outfit New England Revolution.
