Udinese coach Francesco Guidolin has told reporters in Italy that the Brazilian duo of Maicosuel and Willians are taking longer than expected to adapt to the Italian game, following transfers this summer.

The pair were left on the bench this past weekend as Udinese beat AC Milan 2-1 on Saturday, while fellow newboy, former Vasco midfielder Allan, was afforded a starting spot.

Guidolin said: “You can think that the adjustment to a new team is easier for an older boy, but there are cases where the integration process follows the same path as that of a youngster.

“It takes a little patience, to make them feel important. Those two players are behind the others in terms of professional integration.”

Maicosuel’s adaptation was not helped by the fact he missed the crucial penalty against Braga that saw Udinese miss out on Champions League football, made worse by the fact his panenka attempt was casually saved by the goalkeeper.

Both players, it seems, will be granted time to adapt, but must avoid falling down the pecking order at such an early stage.
