Corinthians are delighted with the start that Romarinho has made to his career at the 2012 Copa Libertadores champions, according to the club’s associate director of football Duilio Monteiro Alves.

Romarinho, 21, signed for the Sao Paulo giants primarily as a squad player from Serie B side Bragantino earlier this year, but impressed the coaching staff straight away with his enthusiasm and personality and also his habit of scoring important goals, including the 85th minute equaliser for Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores Final first leg away to Boca Juniors.

Alves, speaking to Lancenet, said: “The football he has displayed is no surprise. We watched him for a long time and knew all this quality. He’s a great forward.”

Alves was also impressed with the ease with which the player took to playing for one of the biggest clubs in South America.

“He loosened up pretty fast here. For any player it is hard to play for Corinthians. The shirt can weigh heavy. He is very young but it had no meaning.”

The second-striker is currently Timão’s leading goalscorer in the Brasileirão, with 6 goals so far this season.
