Brazilian-born defender Douglas has praised his team’s performances as FC Twente overcame rivals AZ to remain top of the Eredivisie.
Linked with Newcastle United all summer, Douglas, 24, told reporters: “The team played very well again and we got a very good win against one of our potential competitors for the title this season.
“We come from a defeat in the last round for Ajax, away from home. So in another difficult game, we needed to recover and win.
“The championship is very long, but we are playing well and that’s important. We have a few days now to rest and work on some important points of our game, so in the next round we can win again.”
Steve McClaren’s side took apart AZ Alkmaar 3-0 with goals from Nacer Chadli, Dušan Tadic and Luc Castaignos as they occupy the top position after eight games.
FC Twente will now face Roda in the next round of the Eredivisie.
