Corinthians coach Tite was caught off-guard on Friday, with the revelation that the Superclássico das Américas fixture between Brazil and Argentina had been rescheduled for November 21.

The fixture, which comes only days before the penultimate round of the Brasileirão, threatens to disrupt several clubs’ league run-ins, as well as Corinthians’ preparations for the Club World Cup in December.

The Timão could find themselves losing upwards of five players for the fixture, which was rearranged following last week’s cancellation due to floodlight failure in Resistencia (ARG).

“I didn’t know. I’ve only now found out, I’m speechless. 21 November?” Tite questioned when informed at a press conference.

“I have to prepare an answer so I am coherent, this is a new situation. Let me think straight or I will be impulsive.”

Later in the press conference, though, the coach was more willing to talk: “My request will be that no-one from Corinthians is called. I cannot ask Mano, because it is not done coach-to-coach. There’s a hierarchy.

“This disrupts our preparations for the Club World Cup. If it depended on me, none of our players would be selected.”
