Santos full-back Juan, a one-time Arsenal youth player, faces a hearing on Wednesday to decide what punishment he will face for breaking Anti-Doping laws after the side’s match with Flamengo on September 12.

Juan, 30, broke the ‘Chain of Custody’ rules that exist in anti-doping regulation by returning to the changing room, having been selected for testing, rather than heading straight to the testing location.

The player will face charges under Articles 2.3 and 2.5 of the World Anti-Doping code which refer to ‘refusal or escaping collection’ and ‘attempting to change any component of the control’. If found guilty, the player could face a ban of up to two years from the STJD (Sporting Justice Tribunal).

Besides that possibility, Juan will also be accused of breaking Article 258 of the Code of Brazilian Sports Justice, ‘conduct contrary to the ethics of sport’ for which a ban of six matches is possible.

Santos also face changes of ‘failing to comply with a legal obligation’ for which they could face a hefty fine if found to be complicit in a missed test. Juan is currently on-loan from São Paulo until the end of the season.
