Corinthians are eyeing a swoop for Bayer Leverkusen star Renato Augusto, according to reports from media giant Globo Esporte on Friday.

Renato Augusto, 24, joined the Bundesliga side from Flamengo in 2008, but there have been murmerings of a possible return to Brazil for some time, as the playmaker looks to recover his place in the Seleção.

The move is believed to be plausible due to the player’s agent, Carlos Leite, who has several staff on Corinthians’ books and a strong relationship with the club’s senior management, founded in the time of former president and now CBF official Andres Sanchez.

Corinthians are believed to have also identified centre-back as a position that requires strengthening, with several news outlets reporting that the club are looking to rejuvenate their ageing back-line.

Globo report that Valenciennes defender Gil, formerly of Cruzeiro, is a priority for the Copa Libertadores winners, whilst 20-year-old Cleberson of Atlético Paranaense is another possible defensive addition linked with the Pacaembu in 2013.
