Grêmio midfielder Elano is hoping his good form this season can help force him back into the plans of national team coach Mano Menezes.

The 31-year-old former Manchester City has not played for the Seleção since 2011, but the return of Kaka has given the player hope that he can force a recall.

He told Terra: “I keep hoping and how we perceive, sometimes the coach has his way of working and the players that do well in Brazil are practically discarded. But with the return of Kaka, the change big. So this is very positive and some who have been before are getting a comeback, like Ronaldinho and I too with my form here at Gremio.

“I think sometimes the coach remembers some other players and makes a point of not remembering other. I keep quiet, but my goal is to one day return to the squad.”

Elano was a key part of the Brazil squad for the 2010 World Cup under Dunga, and revealed he is still in contact with the coach now they live in the same city.

“Dunga is my friend, and I’ve had contact with him and I am very happy to have him as a friend and be living in the city where he resides. I’ll always be grateful because Dunga was always very fair with our work within the Brazilian national team, always helped me a lot and I will always have him as a great friend.”
