Corinthians head coach Tite reacted calmly to the statements from forward Juan Manuel Martínez who expressed his desire to leave the Copa Libertadores champions if he does not get more playing time next season.

However, Tite, , believes the player should focus on the end of this season in which Corinthians have important games int he league as they prepare for the Fifa Club World Cup.

He said: “I read what he said … But I’m thinking both in World … I think we should stay focused on the Fifa Club World Cup and the leaguel, since 2013 is not here yet.

“Everyone has the ambition to be the star, but the ball does the talking. The field is there and the player has to perform. You have to do the best job, but always putting the Corinthians goal above any individual. Individuality comes with time.”

And director of football Duilio Monteiro Alves backed his manager, citing Barcelona star Lionel Messi as an example. 

He said: “He (Martinez) has come in and is understanding our work. That everyone respects the club hierarchy, colleagues … When Messi was awarded the Golden Ball, he spoke of the award, but mostly of the team.”
