Grêmio head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo confirmed on Friday that former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva has signed a pre-contract with Atlético-MG.

Gilberto Silva, 36, joined the Porto Alegre club in 2011 after leaving Greek side Panathinaikos but has never hid his wish to one day play again for Atlético-MG and it looks like his dream is to come true. His manager at Grêmio, Vanderlei Luxemburgo, said:

“You have players who will be players and who will not stay. Gilberto Silva called me and said he accepted the proposal and would like to play for Atlético-MG. This is nothing abnormal, it is customary to make a pre-contract.”

Gilberto has played in 76% of Grêmio games this season and has been the captain of the club over the past few years and is one of the most experienced players in the changing room. However, in the second half of the seaon the forerm Arsenal midfielder, who has been playing in defence for Grêmio, has played less due to physical problems.
