Santos boss muricy Ramalho has expressed his delight at the club’s capture of commanding centre-back Neto from Série B side Guarani, who they met in the final of the Paulistão earlier this year.

Neto, 27, is now the third member of that side to join the Peixe, following in the footsteps of Emerson Pascoa and Bruno Peres, after signing a two-year deal at the Vila Belmiro at the second attempt.

The 1.95m centre-back had initially been a target for the club in May, but a deal could not be struck. Now, to the delight of Muricy, Santos have finally got their man.

“He is a player we were very interested in, but he was highly valued because he had a good State Championship. At the time, we couldn’t strike a deal,” Muricy told Terra.

“We didn’t sign him before for that reason. Now, we made an offer to Guarani and they accepted our proposal. He is a quality player who will help us a lot. Neto is coming to help us build a strong squad for next season.”
