Atlético Mineiro president Alexandre Kalil has returned from a trip to Europe, in which he revealed the club made an approach to repatriate striker Diego Tardelli.
Tardelli, 27, is currently plying his trade for Al-Gharafa in Qatar, but spent three succesful seasons with the Belo Horizonte club between 2009 and 2011, becoming a firm fan favourite.
“We are considering a few things, but only one I can discuss,” he told Lance. “We have made a strong attempt to sign Tardelli, but it is very difficult.
“We met with his people in London, but the situation is very complex. I spoke with him and we will know next week if it is a ‘yes’ or ‘no’.”
Although unwilling to discuss other situations in any detail, Kalil did confirm reports emerging from Grêmio that former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva will return to Atlético next season after after a 10 year absence.
