Corinthians are continuing discussions with agent Carlos Leite over the possible transfer of three of his clients to the club for next season, according to a report in Lancenet.

The report, which follows suggestions that have been circulating for some time, indicates that the reigning Copa Libertadores champions are looking to rejuvenate their squad with the signings of Leverkusen midfielder Renato Augusto and defenders Gil and Anderson Martins, from Valenciennes and Al Jaish respectively.

Renato Augusto, thought to be available for €4 million, has long been a target, but Corinthians will face competition from former club Flamengo for his signature, with the deal the most unlikely of the trio.

The club will also face difficulty in their pursuit of defender Gil, 24, who has been a stand-out player for Valenciennes in recent times. Although thought to have been available in the summer, his form over the last few months has led to an increase in asking price for the former Cruzeiro player. Anderson Martins, 25, meanwhile, has been given permission to return to Brazil by his Qatari side.

The planned reinforcements of the defence come as Corinthians look to reduce the average age of their centre-backs, with both Chicão and Anderson Polga over-30, while Paulo Andre is 29 years old.
