Cruzeiro striker Anselmo Ramon was involved in a car accident near Salvador in Bahia state on Saturday morning, leaving a cyclist dead and injuring both himself and another cyclist.

Anselmo, 24, was driving on the BA-099 highway between the cities of Camaçari and Dias d’Ávila when the incident occurred.

According to information given out by the Military Police, the vehicle left the road for around twenty metres before colliding with the two cyclists. The vehicle was not registered to the Cruzeiro striker.

One of the cyclists died instantly in the incident, whilst the other was taken to a nearby hospital along with the player himself.

Because of his injuries, it is reported that the footballer did not undergo a breathalyser test at the scene, but the Military Police report that he is thought to have fallen asleep at the wheel ahead of the incident.

Anselmo Ramon joined Cruzeiro from Bahia in 2007 and has spent several spells away from the club on-loan. However, the striker has returned to play an important role for the Belo Horizonte side over the past 18-months.
