Atlético Mineiro president Alexandre Kalil believes it will difficult to bring former striker Diego Tardelli back to the club for next season and described the player as ‘stupid’ for scoring a hat trick at the weekend.

Tardelli, 27, has expressed a desire to return to Belo Horizonte from Qatari club Al-Gharafa, but his form may prove a stumbling block for the deal to happen, as the board at Al-Gharafa may not want to sell one of their star players.

“I’m not optimistic, because he is too stupid, he made three goals over the weekend and a ‘gol de placa’ (solo goal), he wants to come back, it’ll be so dumb, but we have people there negotiating, trying,” Kalil told Rádio Itatiaia.

Kalil also admitted that the player’s salary demands might also scupper the deal.

“We have two problems, the price that the team wants and the salary that Tardelli wants. Speaking on Twitter that you want to come back is easy, but you have to give up a part.

“We have Brazilians in Doha, trying to negotiate, I had a position that in a week we have the definition.

“This is if he has a price, because for some Arabs some things are priceless, so if you have to negotiate, I will go there, or Tardelli comes to Brazil and then we negotiate,” he added.
