Corinthians goalkeeper Cássio has described 2012 as the best year of his life after adding the Fifa Club World Cup title to the Copa Libertadores victory back in July.
Cássio, 25, had the game of his career in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea in Yokohama, pulling off a number of world class saves to deny Gary Cahill, Fernando Torres and Eden Hazard, but it was his flying stop from Victor Moses which he saw as the hardest.
“It was hard, I did not see the ball,” Cássio told Lancenet!
“It’s always difficult when you do not see, but I used my wingspan.”
The keeper started his career at Grêmio before moving to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands in 2007. Despite spending five years at PSV, Cássio only made two appearances for the first team and spent 2009 on loan at Sparta Rotterdam.
He moved back to Brazil earlier this after his contract with PSV had ended and has not looked back since.
“I hope they are the first (achievements) of many. It’s my first year back in Brazil, the best year of my life, for sure. I hope to continue honouring the shirt.
“It’s not fancy, but always say I have to do my part. Avoiding goals, I won. But this award is not just mine, it’s for the whole group: For Julio (Cesar), Danilo (Fernandes), Mauri (Lima, goalkeeping coach), Mateus (Caldeira, goalkeeper promoted from the Youth team), which was there in Brazil. It was very hard work. I won the prize, but everyone deserves this.”
