Fluminense’s pursuit of Botafogo left-back Márcio Azevedo seems to have come to a halt after the Brazilian champions rejected the request from Botafogo of including striker Rafael Sobis in the deal.

Azevedo, 26, is seen as a key part of Oswaldo de Oliveira’s squad and Botafogo, while not ruling out selling the player, are looking for the best deal they can get from Abel Braga’s side.

However, Fluminense refused to comment on a possible deal but it is believed they see Sobis as a vital player and are only just paying his former club Al Jazira (UAE) the transfer fee that took him back to Brazil.

“We do not speak of names as usual,” executive director of Fluminense, Rodrigo Caetano, told Lancenet!

“Just let us express when someone is hired, as was the case in Rhayner. We continue to work in secrecy.”

Fluminense want to strengthen the left-back position for the Copa Libertadores next season and as well as targeting Márcio Azevedo they are looking at Reinaldo, of Sport, and Julio Cesar, the former Grêmio player who has also played for Fluminense before.
