São Paulo are set to look in the direction of a former idol to strengthen their midfield ranks next season, with Lancenet! reporting that the club are looking to recruit midfielder Josué.

Josué, 33, was a member of the São Paulo side that won the Club World Cup in 2005 and is only contracted at Wolfsburg until June 2013, when he would be able to leave on a free transfer.

The holding midfielder is now in his sixth season with the German side and has captained the club since 2008, including lifting Wolfsburg’s first Bundesliga title in 2008-09.

Midfield is a priority for the São Paulo board, with starter Wellington already 30% owned by Ukrainian giants Shakhtar and his regular midfield partner Denilson on-loan from Arsenal until the middle of the year.

Wolfsburg, though, would still like to retain the player past the expiry of his current contract and have offered the player an extension for a further year.
