Cruzeiro president Gilvan de Pinho Tavares has revealed that the Belo Horizonte club are trying to sign Dynamo Kiev defender Leandro Almeida.

Almeida, 25, started his career with Cruzeiro’s city rivals Atlético Mineiro before moving to the Ukraine giants in 2009 but is said to be keen to return to Brazil in the near future and has been linked with a move to Atlético Paranaense, who were promoted from Serie B last season.

“We are short a defender and there is a great chance of Leandro Almeida coming,” Tavares told TV Band Minas.

And the player, who was born in Belo Horizonte, has revealed he would have no problem signing for the great rivals of his former club.

“I have a great admiration for Atlético. I was raised there and thank you for all you have done for my career.

“But I’m a professional. Cruzeiro is one of the largest teams in Brazil. If you have a good proposal for me and for Dynamo Kiev, I believe that trading can happen.”
