Veteran centre-back Cris is set for a return to Brazilian football with Grêmio after parting ways with Turkish giants Galatasaray by mutual consent, Sambafoot understands.

Cris, 35, joined Galatasaray last summer after eight years in French football with Lyon, but will arrive back in Brazil tomorrow after receiving an offer to join the Rio Grande do Sul outfit.

The centre-back, who has 27 Brazil caps to his name, played for both Corinthians and Cruzeiro before heading to Europe, playing a major role for the latter as they won a domestic treble, or Triple Crown, in 2003.

At Lyon, he would go on to win four Ligue 1 titles and three cup competitions, before a switch to Istambul in August 2012.

Within months of joining, though, his Turkish adventure has come to an end and he is set to join Brasileirão giants Grêmio under manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo.

The Gaúcho side have been in the market for a centre-back in recent weeks, following the confirmation that Gilberto Silva would return to former side Atlético Mineiro for the 2013 season.

The deal is set to be announced in the coming days.
