Grêmio are closing in on the signing of an ‘experienced’ player according to club director Omar Selaimen.

The player, believed to be former Brazil international Cris, who left Galatasaray on Wednesday, could be unveiled as soon as Friday, but the club are being cautious in naming the player in case the deal falls through.

“I would like to announce the player only after signing his contract,” Selaimen told Radio Gaúcha.

“So there is no disappointment for the fans. It’s an experienced player, of which Grêmio is in need, but is not yet employed by Grêmio as we are still missing small details.”

Selaimen also spoke about the other player’s on Grêmio’s radar, including FC Porto midfielder Souza, who spent last season on-loan with the club.

“I keep my hope that he will act for Grêmio this year. If he will arrive on Thursday or Friday I do not know. The distance, which was huge, is now minor. Grêmio will spend good money, so I think he will serve the club in 2013 .

However, the deal’s to bring Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas and Santos fullback Pará, who was also on-loan at Grêmio last season, are more complicated.

“The player (Eduardo Vargas) knows the proposal and today still expressed interest to play here, but interest from Napoli and the release is a great distance.

“The state of Pará is more or less the same, the difference is that Santos have already received our proposal and not yet accepted.”
