According to Lancenet, a deal has been agreed that will see former Corinthians midfielder Elias join Flamengo on loan later this week.

Elias, 27, joined Sporting Lisbon for a club record €9 million in the summer of 2011, but has fallen out of favour at the Liga Sagres side.

His plight prompted Flamengo’s new directorship to make enquiries about his services in December, with negotiations finally coming to a head in the last few days.

The loan agreement will see the player join Flamengo until December 31 and include a clause that would allow him to move elsewhere in the summer, should a better opportunity emerge.

Elias came to make headlines in Brazil during a spell at Corinthians from 2008 to 2010. In that period, partnering Jucilei in midfield, he helped the club to Série B, Paulista and Copa do Brasil titles.

His form for the Timão and relationship with then manager Mano Menezes would see him go on to win 13-caps for his country from 2010 to present.
