According to information published by Lancenet, Flamengo have made a move to purchase 20% of the economic rights of Bahia midfielder Gabriel.

Gabriel, who turned 23 earlier this week, came of age in the 2012 season, scoring six times to help Bahia to safety in Série A. The forward, who came through the academy at the North-Eastern side, also contributed six goals in the Baiano state championships.

The information was confirmed to the publication by Bahia president Marcelo Guimarães Filho, with Flamengo looking to confirm their first signing of the 2013 season as the state championships fast approach.

Under the proposals, Bahia will retain a percentage of the player’s ownership, allowing the club to profit from any future sale.

Although several clubs have made enquiries for the player, Flamengo are thought to have been the only side to make an official bid.

Bahia, for their part, expect that the transfer will be completed by the end of the week.
