Former Palmeiras captain Marcos Assunção has met with Santos to discuss a move to the Vila Belmiro after leaving the Verdão earlier this week.

Assunção, 36, who left Palmeiras after failing to agree on a new deal with the relegated club, is attracted to the proposal put forward by Santos coach Muricy Ramalho and at the prospect of returning to the club where he had two spell in the late 90’s.

The player met with Santos vice-president Odílio Rodrigues for dinner on Thursday evening to discuss the move.

Rodrigues told Lancenet!: “ We’re talking, let’s see what evolves in the coming days. Every team wants to make their squad, but we have to keep the peace.”

The offer from Santos is believed to be less than the former Real Betis star was on at Palmeiras and the two parties are still some way from agreeing but the player, who has always been a Santos fan, could be presented to the media on Friday if an agreement is found.
