New Grêmio defender Cris has revealed he has been impressed with the quality of the squad at his new club since joining from Galatasaray.

Cris, 35, signed for Grêmio at the start of January after a disappointing six months with the Turkish giants, who he joined in the summer after eight successful years with Lyon, and is ready for the challenge of helping Vanderlei Luxemburgo return the good times to the Porto Alegre club.

“The style is well here. The players are experienced, ready for a big battle,” he told Zero Hora.

“I was born in a club that was always called ‘the peoples’, which is Corinthians. I’m ready for this challenge, it’s my style. I’ll try to give my best and show my experience. The group is good, we are preparing very well.”

As well as the quality of the squad, Cris is also impressed with the new stadium which Grêmio will move into this season but admitted that he is still to get to know the city.

“It is a very beautiful stadium. It’s a stadium that draws attention when you arrive, it’s on a European level. Of course it has some adjustments, it is the beginning, but it is very beautiful.

“I do not know the city at all, we’re focused. But from what I have heard, it is very nice, a good to live.

“The spirit is good, I’m adapting well to my teammates. I am always kind of shy in the beginning, but I know some players, which facilitates adaptation.”
