Fluminense vice-president Sandro Lima announced on Friday afternoon the return to the club of midfielder Felipe, who recently walked away from Vasco da Gama.

Felipe, 35, joins the Tricolor Carioca for the second time, having spent an eventful spell at the club in 2005. During that spell, he played just 19 games for the club due to a six-month suspension for punching an opponent.

The left-footed attacking midfielder becomes Fluminense’s third signing of the January window, joining right-back Wellington Silva and forward Rhayner at the Laranjeiras outfit.

The signing won’t, though, affect the club’s pursuit of Rubin Kazan forward Carlos Eduardo, with the director insisting: “We are negotiating with Carlos Eduardo. The arrival of Felipe does not prevent his arrival.”

Coach Abel Braga also revealed that Argentine left-back Fabián Monzón’s loan signing should be completed within 48 hours. There was further need for consultation with parent club Lyon this week, following the detection of a heart defect during his medical examination.
