Marcos Assunção has revealed his delight at returning to his former club Santos.

Assunção, 36, left Palmeiras, where he had played since 2010, last month after failing to agree terms on a new contract with the relegated club and jumped at the chance to rejoin the club he left 14 years ago.

“The feeling is of happiness, after all this time, 14 years out,” he told Lancenet!

“After my return to Brazil I always had conversations and unfortunately it never worked out (to return).

“I am glad to return to the team that always supported as a child. I always liked it here, they gave me all the support to go to Europe and be a great professional.”

The former Real Betis midfielder has signed a one year deal with Muricy Ramalho’s team and is looking forward to helping out and, hopefully, winning some titles.

“I hope that 2013 can be a year of many achievements and I can help as much as possible. This current squad is quite young, promises a lot of quality players and we have the best player of the Americas (Neymar).

“With the arrival of some players, Santos will win titles and give much joy to the fans.”
