Santos faced their first serious opponent of the 2013 season on Sunday as they took on Bragantino in the Paulistão, rescuing their 100 percent record thanks to a last minute penalty from Neymar.

Defender Raphael Andrade headed Bragantino into a first-half lead, before recently signed midfielder Cícero levelled for Santos shortly after the break from a Montillo assist.

Volante Diego Macedo restored the Série B side’s lead with just 25 minutes remaining, with a fine solo effort, and looked to be heading for a well-deserved win.

In the final minute, though, Miralles took a tumble in the area and the referee pointed to the spot, giving Neymar the chance to add his fourth of the year to secure Santos a point from their travels.

Elsewhere, at the Pacaembu, Palmeiras suffered the indignity of a 3-2 home defeat to lowly Penapolense.

Having taken an early lead through right back Ayrton, the Verdão were stunned as their visitors soared to a 3-1 lead. A late strike from substitute Luan was ultimately to be no more than a consolation effort.

Corinthians continued with their reserve squad in a 1-0 victory over Mirassol in Campos Maia. However, the game was noted for the debut of new signing Renato Augusto, joining defender Gil in reinforcing the state championship team.

Romarinho scored an early header to secure victory for his side, but fans of the Timão will be grateful to see the return of the Club World Cup squad in the near future.

Other results:

  • Botafogo 2-0 São Bernardo
  • Paulista 1-0 União Barbarense
  • Mogi Mirim 4-2 XV de Piricicaba
