Grêmio midfielder Zé Roberto is hopeful that defender Cris recovers in time for Wednesday night’s Copa Libertadores playoff against LDU, saying he has a “warrior mentality”.

Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has yet to reveal his starting line up to face the Ecuadorians at the Grêmio Arena, but Zé Roberto hopes Cris will be fit.

“Cris felt a discomfort but did some training with us,” the former Bayern Munich midfielder told Globo Esporte.

“He is a player that came with the idea of winning here. I do not know the context of the injury, but he has the mentality of a warrior. If he is not 100%, he can help us. But if he cannot play, we have a team that did great last season.”

Grêmio go into the game against LDU trailing by one goal after losing the first leg 1-0 last week, but for Zé Roberto defeat is not an option.

“We do not think of anything except winning and entering the group stage. It is our focus. Training has been good these past days so we can make a great game.”
