Sambafoot takes a look at the weekend’s Campeonato Carioca action…
Deco set up two first-half goals to lead Fluminense to a 3-1 victory over Volta Redonda on Sunday.
Samuel headed the Brasileirão champions in front after just six minutes of play at the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, following a precise corner from Deco.
The former Portugal star then played a clever through ball for the 21-year-old to make it 2-0 just before half time.
Leo Andrade reduced the deficit in the 61st-minute by bundling in from close range, before Marcos Júnior scored Flu’s third in injury time after a slalom run into the penalty area.
Deco, who was playing his first match of the year after recovering from a thigh injury, said: “It was my first game of the season and I was able to participate in two of the goals.
“I didn’t feel any effects of the injury and I could have played the entire match. I only came off as a precaution.”
Elsewhere, Hernane netted his eighth goal of the competition to give Flamengo a narrow 1-0 victory over Botafogo at the Engenhão.
Vasco da Gama put two second half goals past Audax Rio to claim their first win for four games.
Éder Luís netted just after the restart before Carlos Alberto wrapped the three points up with a goal in the 64th-minute.
