A superb Jonas strike failed to prevent Valencia from crashing out of the Champions League after being held to a 1-1 draw against PSG.

The Valencia midfielder unleashed a thunderbolt to put the away side in the lead but Ezequiel Lavezzi equalised for PSG to send them through to the next round.

A tepid first half passed without incident but the second half began with a bang as Jonas maneouvred himself into a shooting position on the edge of the box and struck a rising shot that nestled in the bottom corner.

But Valencia’s hopes were dashed after great work from substitute Kevin Gameiro setting up Lavezzi who shot straight at the goalkeeper but reacted quickly to tuck away the rebound.

PSG now march on to the quarter-finals along with Juventus, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund who have secured places in the draw.

Valencia can hold their head high after their efforts but will have to focus on their La Liga campaign.
