Former São Paulo boss Vadão has been appointed as manager of newly promoted Serie A side Criciúma following the dismissal of Paulo Comelli last Sunday.

Vadão, who was only sacked by Sport Recife last Thursday, will be presented on Monday following the club’s fixture with Camboriú this Sunday. He will be joined at the club by assistant Vaguinho.

“It’s a very good opportunity,” he told reporters. “Criciúma is a team with a good setup and that has fought its way into the elite of Brazilian football.

“I am certain that its a team with the potential to compete in the Brasileirão.”

Criciúma came into the season with a raft of new signings as they look to strengthen for the challenges ahead. However, the club’s preparations for the new campaign were hit by the sales of top-scoring duo Lucca and Ze Carlos.

Vadão has previous management experience with Atlético-PR, São Paulo, Tokyo Verdy and Guarani amongst other teams.
