São Paulo coach Ney Franco has praised midfielder Ganso for his hard work so far this season and believes it is only “a question of time” before the former Santos midfielder is involved in the starting lineup.

Ganso, 23, has found had to be content as second choice since recovering from a hamstring injury late in the 2012 season. With Jadson in good form ahead of him, it is starting to become a major talking point as to when the playmaker will earn a first-team place.

With reports criticising his performances and attitude on the pitch, his coach has stepped in to offer support and reassurance that a place in the first-team will follow.

“He (Ganso) is trying hard. He had a great pre-season and has participated in all the training sessions. He is one of the ones who has been involved the most,” Ney Franco told Globo Esporte.

“Out of 14 matches, he has been involved in 13. The issue is that we have a playing style and that is, sometimes, with only one central attacking midfielder.

“I opted for Jadson because he has a better tactical understanding and because he is in good form. Ganso is a linking midfielder who plays near the strikers and supplies them with goals.

“People need to remember that we have a season that runs until December with six competitions. He will play and it is expected he will be a starter due to his talent and potential.

“Now it is a question of time. He has the confidence of everybody.”
