Napoli are interested in Grêmio’s high rated midfielder Fernando, according to reports from Brazil and Italy.

The midfielder shone in Brazil’s recent friendlies against Italy and Russia but was not included in the squad that face Bolivia on Saturday as Scolari plans to use the game to take a closer look at other players.

Napoli have a first option on the player and would be willing to involve Eduardo Vargas, who is currently loaned to Grêmio, in a swap deal, with Fernando joining the Italian team.

A swap deal is not deemed acceptable by Grêmio. The Tricolor want instead 10 million Euros to sell Fernando, according to a Globo Esporte report.

Fernando’s agent Jorge Machado has also denied that any official offer has been made, but that he is not surprised foreign teams have expressed interest.

The midfielder’s contract with Grêmio expires in 2015, he has been at the club since 2010.
