Grêmio have confirmed that first-team duo Werley and Adriano will be out of action for a period of four to six weeks, ruling them out of the next stage of the Copa Libertadores.

Werley, who has a problem with his left thigh muscle, and Adriano, who has damaged ligaments in his right knee, will both face a period on the sidelines a

Regarding Werley, doctor Saul Berdichevski said: “It’s a tear that needs, on average, four to six weeks of recovery. But, we won’t define the term.

“He has already started physiotherapy, which is the main stage of the recovery.”

For Adriano, there was at least least news that there would be no need for surgery: “There was a significant ligament injury. We will give the treatment that it needs.

“We will evaluate it daily, but there is no need for surgery.”

Besides the Copa Libertadores, the duo will also miss the latter stages of the Gaucho state championships.

While Adriano has only been a reserve for Fernando thus far in his Grêmio career, it is likely that Bressan will be chosen to partner Cris at the heart of the defence.
