Barcelona right-back Dani Alves believes the Catalan giants must be 2-0 up at half-time if they are to stand a chance in overturning Bayern Munich’s 4-0 lead in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday evening.

Alves, 29, knows the La Liga leaders have a near impossible challenge to overcome the already crowned German champions but promises they will give everything they can to record a famous victory.

Alves is quoted in the Daily Mail saying: “We must be 2-0 up at half-time, that’s a minimum requirement.

“We’ll give it everything. For us this match is like the final itself and we are obliged to give 200 per cent.

“If we score quickly it will help us because that will get Bayern thinking and nerves could set in.

“We are a team that increases its level of performance in our very worst moments and now we need to be at our very best.

“Bayern might be a big team — but so are we. And if the Germans arrive here relaxed in any way at all that will be a big error. Now is the moment for revenge.”

While the odds are firmly against Tito Vilanova’s side in reaching the final to face Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona can at least take heart from their 4-0 victory over AC Milan in the quarter-final at the Nou Camp and the fact that Lionel Messi appears to be close to full fitness.
