Corinthians midfielder Danilo hobbled off early into the second half with a calf strain during Wednesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Boca Juniors and is now a doubt for Sunday’s crucial Paulistão semi-final against fierce rivals São Paulo.

The 33-year-old is a vital part of Tite’s team, providing experience and skill in the middle of the park and would be a big miss for the Timão at the Morumbi on Sunday if he does not manage to recover.

He said: “I am concerned (the injury) as I left the field because of it. I began to feel it around 20 minutes into the first half and held until halftime, but ended complicating it more and chose to leave as a precaution for Sunday.”

The defeat in Buenos Aires means the current Copa Libertadores holders will need to beat Boca Juniors in the reverse fixture in two weeks time at Pacaembu. However, the veteran believes that, despite not getting an away goal, they have enough to see off the Argentines.

“We know that in this matter of two games, it is good to get an away goal. Now, we lost, but it was only one goal, we have all the conditions to reverse this result back in São Paulo.”
