Grêmio’s board have ruled out the possibility of sacking manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo, despite the team’s poor results recently.

A meeting was held on Monday to decide his future, and unlike what was expected, the board came to the conclusion that he has to stay.

Grêmio executive director of football Rui Costa said: “It’s important to tell the fans that Luxemburgo is the manager of Grêmio. We’ll keep believing in his work.”

“We met and only then we have expressed this position. We had a talk and that’s very important for us keep following our goals.”

Rui Costa added: “I would be an idiot if I didn’t notice all the speculations that are being made, this is why I am saying to tell the fans that Luxemburgo will remain at the club.”

“We have never doubted about this work. All the pressure came from outside the club, it was created by the press.”
