Grêmio’s left-back André Santos is set to return to Arsenal as the Brazilian club admitted that they are unlikely to keep him.

The former Corinthians player was signed for Copa Libertadores but Grêmio were eliminated in the round of 16 ny Santa Fe.

The club’s football director talked about André Santos’ situation after Grêmio win against Náutico for the Brazilian national league.

Marcos Chitolina told reporters: “We signed André Santos for Copa Libertadores and his contract expires in July.

It would be too expensive for Grêmio to renew his contract, he is a very expensive player.”

Grêmio have two other left-backs, experienced former Liverpool player Fábio Aurélio and young Alex Telles.

“We thank everything André Santos has done, but we will keep Alex Telles and Fábio Aurélio”, Marcos Chitolina added.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal will want to keep the left-back, as he had also failed to impress in the English Premier League.
