Romário has criticized Neymar"s decision to leave Santos and move to European football, where he will play for Barcelona.

The 1994 World Cup winner believes Neymar will be in a less difficult league and that the move is motivated by money.

Romário told press: “He is leaving something that is hard to move to something that isn"t as hard. So will he really learn what they say he will learn? Will he gain experience like they say he will? This is different for each person."

The former Brazil striker believes money can explain why the transfer happened, he said: “Of course that the financial aspect is too important in any sport, including football.

“A player"s career is not long, so they have to take their chances while they can and achieve financial independence."

“But money aside, I can"t see why Neymar is leaving now to play for Barcelona, especially considering [the Spanish league] is not considered one of the most difficult competitions in the world.

“So he is leaving something that is hard to play in something that isn"t as hard."
