Newell’s manager Gerardo Martino has ruled the possibility of managing Santos although he confirmed he is leaving the Argentine club.

His team were beaten 2-3 on penalties by Atlético Mineiro in the Copa Libertadores semifinals and the manager now wants to rest.

The manager talked with reporters after the game, he said: “It’s certain I am leaving Newell’s but I will not manage Santos.”

When asked about his future, he said: “My future is at home.”

Santos have been trying to sign a new manager since Muricy Ramalho was sacked. The club have attempted to sign Marcelo Bielsa but negotiations did not work out.

Gerardo Martino became the next target, but negotiations failed too and caretaker manager Claudinei Oliveira is expected to remain charge for the time being.
