Manchester City’s manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Brazilian right-back Maicon is leaving the club.

The right-back is believed to be close to joining Italian club Roma, following an unimpressive performance in England last season.

Pellegrini has confirmed Maicon is not going to stay at Manchester City, he told the club’s official site:  “Maicon didn’t come here to the pre-season and he will not be in the squad at Manchester City this year.”

He is expected to join Roma soon, with reports in Italian press claiming that he will undergo the medical tomorrow.

A move to Roma might also help Maicon return to the national team, he has not been called up since 2011, when Mano Menezes was Brazil’s manager.
