Wolfsburg midfielder Diego is expecting the club to have a "much better" season next term.

The Brazil international returned to the Volkswagen Arena last summer, after a season-long loan at Atlético Madrid, and scored 10 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances.

But despite Diego’s best efforts, Wolfsburg limped home in 11th place. However, the 28-year-old feels that significant progress is being made ahead of the 2013-14 campaign, as reported on Goal.com.

“[We will be] much better, much better, I think, but we still have some things to improve with the ball and without the ball also," He told reporters.

“We feel better and I hope in the future we can play better because I think we made some mistakes and that should not be normal for us, but at the moment I think we are on the right way."

Diego was hesitant to predict how well Die Radkappen will do next season though, having tasted disappointment in the past.

He added: “I think at the moment we don"t speak about targets because in the last three seasons we spoke about being champions or being in the Champions League or Europa League and in the end we fight against relegation. So, we must be honest and quiet.

“Of course we want to make a very good season and we can do that together but we should go step by step and I hope we can win the first three points and after that we think about the next one."
