Manchester City defender Maicon has arrived in Italy ahead of completing a move to Roma.

The almost 32-year-old has been strongly linked with a return to Serie A side this summer, having started just four games since arriving at the Etihad Stadium from Inter last summer.

And Roberto Mancini’s successor, Manuel Pellegrini, has since told the former Cruzeiro star that he has no future at the club and left him out of the squad for their pre-season tour of South Africa.

Roma have moved quickly to try and land the experienced full-back and reportedly agreed a fee with City late on Sunday, which is believed to be in the region of €5 million.

According to Football Italia, Maicon touched down at Fiumicino airport at around 7am this morning and is expected to undergo a medical this afternoon, before signing a two-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

He will link up with his new Roma teammates in their pre-season retreat of Riscone.
